just normal january

January was pretty normal.

I started my last semester of school which consists of an internship at Granite School District here in Salt Lake.  It has been great and I just passed my halfway point this last week.  I have been working with lots of kids with a variety of challenges and disabilities.  It has been tough but also so fun and rewarding.

I don't really like January.
Christmas is over.
It seems like Spring is months and months away.
It is freezing cold.
Not a lot of exciting stuff happens.

But here were a few of the not so normal things that happened...

Emily and I met Gordon Hayward. again.

We were hoping that he didn't recognize us form last month when we met him...

I went to my first Utah gymnastics meet with my good friend Kelsie.
It was a blast and I miss her and love her.

I couldn't believe how packed it was.  Apparently, gymnastics is a big deal.

We went to a Sundance Film with some good friends.
The movie was a downer but the company was great!

Wajma (An Afgan Love Story)

We even meet the director ;) and he has an amazing accent and great hair.

So long January.  February is a much better month in my book.

boarding & skiing & owls

A fun day snowboarding and learning to ski :)

This was Emily's first day skiing, she did amazing!

Dan was a great teacher.  Emily was cruising down the mountain by the end of the day!

Great day with great peeps :)

At the end of the day we met two OWLS!
They were adorable.  I want one.

I want this one. So. Cute.

weekend happenings

The first weekend of the new year was spent...

-cleaning my house
-seeing Les Miserables (again) with my girlfriends from school
-getting my eyes rechecked so I can (hopefully) see better
-lunch with my mother & sister-in-law
-spending some time with my cute niece and nephew
-snowboarding with the hubs
-going to a jazz concert (I wish it would have been a jazz game)
-teaching my first lesson in sunday school with the new youth program

Some were documented with photos... others were not.
I'm sure you're disappointed that you won't get to see any pictures of the house cleaning...

I made the trek up to Logan to get my eyes re-checked because something was wrong with my last prescription I was given in November.  I haven't been able to see much since then.
Yes, school was a little tough for that month, not being able to see the board or my computer was a problem.

I received a warm welcome from my old hometown... -7 degrees!  Holy cow, I don't miss Logan sometimes!

But I did get a warm welcome from these two cuties.

Where's Estee....?

There she is!

Camden and I playing Guess who?  The best game.  So classic.
I might find some names for kids from this game... Bernard, Alfred, Herman, Frans.  All great names.

Cute little Estee.

Carolyn, Amber & I went to paradise bakery for lunch and I am still thinking about that roasted tomato soup.  Can you believe I hated tomato soup growing up.  I am a lover of it now.
It was so fun to see them and have some girl time!

We match.  Sometimes we don't even plan it.

Saturday was a beautiful chilly day in PC.  We were so glad to get out of the Salt Lake smog.

As Jake would say, "bluebird skies"

Soaking up some sun during a little break for my poor knee :)

We scored some tickets to a Jazz concert from Jake's work, we thought it would be fun to get dressed up for something and have a night out on the town.

I thought since we both love Jazz basketball... we might enjoy a Jazz concert...
We made it through about half and snuck out during the intermission.

It was fun but not totally our thing.  We should have taken a picture of the crowd.  We didn't really fit in.  The best part of the concert was this very cute (probably 85 years old) black gentleman singing the jazz... especially a song called Candy :)

Jake is enjoying his job at the hotel.  He is looking into starting a Master's program this fall, possibly in Finance.

I started my internship this week and it has been going well.  I am working in Granite School District with some of the cutest little kiddos.  My supervisor is great and I and sure I will learn a ton.

new years {eve & day}

We spent New Years Eve at Hotel Monaco.
(one of the perks of Jake's job)
Everything just seems more fun when you are in a hotel!

I got all dolled up and let my hair just do it's own thing... :)

What other night of the year can you get away with sequins, velvet pants, cheetah print... and swoopy hair...?

We ate dinner at Bombara.  It was exceptional.

I ate the most delicious thing I have ever eaten.  It was a Potato Gnocchi with butternut squash, craisins, onions and some spectacular white creamy stuff on top.  oh. my. goodness. I salivate even thinking about it.

We hung out in our hotel room after dinner for a bit until just before midnight.

We snuck up on the roof and watched the firework show in the Gallivan Center.
It was a pretty great way to ring in the New Year!
Happy 2013!

The next morning, I said goodbye to my old snowboard and hello to my beautiful new one!!

We went up to Canyons and hit the slopes on new Years Day.  I was pretty nervous about how my knee would do the first day on the mountain.
To be honest.  It hurt.  A lot.

I had to take quite a few breaks....

It was gorgeous and overall we had a good day.

By the end of the day... I felt like I had conquered a great fear.
I am going to be okay... and with a little pain...
I will be able to shred some pow :)
